The Memorable Season Of Corvette Racing

The 2018 season witnessed the 62nd anniversary of the first organized event of Corvette. The racing appearance was a factory attempt of five Corvettes at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1956. In 1960, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, for the first time, the Corvette company joined the French Classic with three Corvettes. This represented the transformation of Corvette as that of a foreign standard.

The Glorious Modern Days Of Corvette Racing

In 1999, the modern era of Corvette began with the outset of the Corvette Racing team-Chevrolet partnering up with Pratt & Miller Engineering, which structures the race cars and run the Chevy Racing program. The racing has had 107 wins worldwide since then – more than any other IMSA competitor. Among those are eight victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours, three at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, and 11 at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring.

The First Corvettes

As the Corvette was the first GM-mass fiberglass body, the plant was not equipped to handle the new technology and did not even know how to surface the car. They wouldn’t start the first few cars they produced. They had to push them off the assembly line instead.

The Illegal Logo Story

One should not be shocked knowing that the first Corvette logo was illegal. Throughout the beginning, Corvette had a checkered flag and an American flag however, before they discovered that the American flag couldn’t be trademarked without transforming that into an interpretation. 

A Lie About The Horsepower

The L88 engine was essentially a race engine for the street. And Chevrolet reported numbers around 70 hp below the actual level, which would be less desirable than many engines to deter so many customers from buying it. It worked – in 1967, there were only 20 Corvettes ordered with the L88.

The ZRI Motor

In England, the 375-hour LT5 engine, used in ZR1 in the early 1990s, was designed by the people in Lotus. Furthermore, it was those people who then met the Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma who built the stuff.
