Bill Elliot is a professional stock car racing driver in America, he is also known as “Million-Dollar Bill” but his real name is William Clyde Elliot. He was born in the year, 1955, on October 8.

Elliot And The Winston Cup

Bill Elliot was the winner of the 1988 Winston Cup Championship. He had forty-four wins in that season. Three were Southern 500 wins in 1985, 1988, and 1994. Two were Daytona 500 wins in 1985 and 1987. One was in 1985, a Winston Five Hundred win. Furthermore, one was a Brickyard 400 win in 2002. Finally, he won “The Winston All-Star Race” win in 1986.  At Michigan International Speedway, he won repeatedly up to four times. That was between 1985 and 1986.

He had a total of seven wins at Michigan, the most that he has ever achieved at just one racetrack. Bill Elliot has the fastest qualifying speed for the track records at Talladega. Moreover, At Daytona International Speedway at 210.364 miles per hour, which happened in 1987.

The fastest qualifying speed for any NASCAR race is the mark at Talladega. In 1988, restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega started to be used up to date. Therefore, it will be very hard for any race car driver to achieve a better speed record than these two.

Elliot’s Fame

Elliot was the winner NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver Award 16 times, from 1984 to 1988. Then from 1991 to 2000, and 2002. After winning that award yet again in 2002, he removed his name from the ballot.

Elliot even had a day dedicated to him. The state of Georgia pronounced October 8 to be Bill Elliot Day in 2005. He was honored yet again with the addition of the roadway in his home Dawson County. Hence, it was changed to Elliot Family Parkway by the state legislature of Georgia.

In August of 2007, he was also added to the Motorsport Hall of Fame of America.  Furthermore, he was included in the 2015 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. His son, Chase has also entered the Car Racing. Chase is also a race winner of a NASCAR Cup Series.

Elliot had won the very first Winston Million. The Winston Million is a million-dollar bonus that is given the winner of three of four of the crown jewel races of NASCAR.

In a year filled with victory for Elliot, he won up to 11 races and 11 poles, 3 wins among the 11 wins were in the Daytona 500, the Southern 500, and the Winston 500. It was what made him win the bonus Winston Million Dollar. That was the reason he was also being called “Million-Dollar Bill.”
